From ICM to Dentistry: Gita’s Journey of Resilience and Growth
02 June 2026

Every journey unfolds in its own time, shaped by moments of growth, uncertainty, and perseverance. Audya Tyas Regita, known as Gita, an ICM alumni from Batch 2 (Devastra), is a reflection of that journey, one that was never fully planned, yet ultimately meaningful. Today, she works as a dentist at Damessa Dental Clinic and Audy Dental, carrying with her the values and experiences she gained during her years at ICM.

During her time at ICM, it was often the simplest moments that left the strongest impressions. The daily routines of boarding school life, rushing to the bathroom in the early morning, hurrying to the resto before it closed, felt chaotic at the time, but are now memories she looks back on with warmth. Among all the experiences she had, one stood out the most was Tzorfas.

Her batch was the first to initiate the program, making it a significant milestone. Gita clearly remembers the long nights spent at the mosque with her peers, discussing ideas and even deciding on the name. Taking on the role of event coordinator while also serving as the MC, she learned to manage responsibilities under pressure. These experiences later played a major role in shaping her ability to communicate, adapt, and collaborate, skills that continue to support her in her professional life today. Beyond activities and events, ICM also instilled habits that she still carries with her. One of them is maintaining discipline in keeping her space organized.

During her school years, Gita was also actively involved in competitions. She achieved 2nd place in a Saman dance competition and participated in poetry reading contests. Her dedication continued into university, where she was recognized as Best Paper Student at the International Dental Scientific Exhibition in 2019, highlighting her academic commitment.

Interestingly, becoming a dentist was never part of her original plan. After graduating from ICM, she was accepted into the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Padjadjaran through the achievement-based admission pathway (SNBP). The news came as a surprise, not only to others, but also to herself. As part of Batch 2, with only a few students accepted through this pathway, it felt almost impossible. Yet, it became a reminder that opportunities can come in unexpected ways.

The most challenging phase came during her clinical years at Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut Universitas Padjadjaran, her journey was suddenly disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. After only a few months, the hospital went into lockdown, forcing her to pause her clinical training for approximately 1.5 years. Compared to many other regions, the restrictions in Bandung lasted longer, significantly delaying her progress.

Today, Gita works at Damessa Dental Clinic and Audy Dental, where each day brings new experiences and challenges. She encounters patients from diverse backgrounds, each with different needs and personalities. Some patients are kind and cooperative, while others arrive feeling anxious or even upset. There are also moments when young patients cry for long periods, making treatment difficult. These situations require patience, empathy, and adaptability. For her, being a dentist is not only about treating teeth, but also about understanding people and responding to their emotions.

As an ICM alumni, she carries forward the lessons she learned not only academically but also through experiences that have shaped her character. Her journey shows that even an unplanned path can lead to something meaningful and when Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala makes a way, even what once feels impossible can become reality.
