On Thursday, 8 October 2026, Our Primary School students took part in Persari and Perkajum, two scouting activities designed to help students learn, grow, and develop meaningful life skills through outdoor experiences. Carrying the theme “Jelajah Alam Wujud Cinta pada Sang Pencipta” the activities encouraged students to appreciate the natural world while strengthening their faith, character, and sense of responsibility.
Persari is a one-day camping activity for Grade 1 and Grade 2 students, while Perkajum is an overnight camping experience for Grade 3 and Grade 4 students. Although the activities were designed according to the students’ respective age groups, both shared the same purpose, to bring learning beyond the classroom and provide opportunities for students to put important values into practice through hands-on experiences.
Through scouting, students are introduced to lessons that go beyond completing tasks or participating in games. They learn the wisdom behind scouting traditions, discover how Islamic teachings can guide their daily actions, and develop habits that help shape good character. By integrating scouting values with Islamic education, Persari and Perkajum provided an opportunity for students to strengthen their Islamic spirit while learning to become more independent, confident, and considerate of others.
Throughout the activities, students participated in a variety of engaging challenges that encouraged teamwork, discipline, and problem-solving. One of the activities involved learning how to set up tents, introducing students to the practical skills needed in a camping environment. Working together to prepare their tents taught them the importance of cooperation, communication, and patience. Students learned that completing a task requires not only individual effort but also a willingness to help one another and contribute to a shared goal.
Team-building games were another highlight of the program. In one challenge, students worked together to arrange cups into a pyramid. Although the task appeared simple, it required coordination, careful planning, and clear communication among team members. Students had to listen to one another, share ideas, and find ways to complete the challenge together. Through activities like this, they learned that teamwork is built on mutual trust, respect, and the ability to work toward a common objective. Other games provided similar opportunities for students to practise cooperation, develop confidence, and learn how to respond to challenges with a positive attitude.
Students also had the opportunity to learn basic cooking skills. Preparing food encouraged them to take part in practical responsibilities that they might not encounter in their usual classroom routines. They learned to follow instructions, work together, and appreciate the effort involved in preparing a meal. These experiences also offered valuable lessons in independence, responsibility, and gratitude, reminding students not to take everyday necessities for granted.
Beyond the practical activities, Persari and Perkajum placed particular emphasis on developing akhlaq and adab, including respect for others, consideration, independence, and self-confidence. Students were encouraged to appreciate their friends, listen to their teachers, respect differences, and demonstrate good manners throughout the program. They also had opportunities to make decisions, take initiative, and complete tasks with greater independence, all within a supportive environment.
These experiences were closely connected to the central theme of the event. Exploring nature offered students an opportunity to observe the world around them and reflect on the greatness of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala as the Creator. Through their interactions with the environment, students were encouraged to develop a deeper appreciation for nature and understand the importance of caring for the world entrusted to them. Simple actions, such as keeping their surroundings clean and using available resources responsibly, became practical ways to express gratitude and demonstrate care for the environment.
Ultimately, Persari and Perkajum were more than camping activities. They were meaningful learning experiences that brought together Islamic values, scouting education, practical skills, and character development. By learning to cooperate, take responsibility, respect others, and care for nature, students gained lessons that they can carry into their everyday lives.
At ICM, learning also takes place through experiences that encourage students to discover their potential and practise the values they learn. Through Persari and Perkajum, we hope every student continues to grow into an individual who demonstrates good akhlaq and adab, becomes more independent and confident, builds meaningful relationships with others, and develops a lasting appreciation for Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala and His creation.
